Hillcrest believes adoption should be a cooperative arrangement between birthparents and adoptive parents. It is also our belief that birthparents have the right to make their own decisions. If adoption is the choice made, Hillcrest's adoption program includes assistance in locating medical resources, foster care arrangements and counseling.

Hillcrest Family Services studies families applying for International and Iowa children in accordance with Iowa law. In addition to a thorough evaluation of the applicants, an educational approach is used to ensure successful adoptions.

Services offered:

  • Several hours of face-to-face interviews.
  • An educational seminar on adoption issues.
  • Psychological and physical exams.
  • Checks of criminal records, child abuse registry and references.
  • Examining the living conditions of the applicant in home and community.
  • Gaining knowledge of applicant's life history through interviews and autobiographies.
  • Understanding the reasons applicants wish to parent and parenting knowledge.
