BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF DUBUQUE COUNTY

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Iowa is located at Hillcrest Family Services, 2005 Asbury Road, Dubuque, Iowa 52001. Its mission is to assist children and youth during their formative years by securing mentors to provide one-to-one, caring professional support and encouragement. A program of Hillcrest Family Services, it has affiliation with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.

Children (ages 5-15) must be from a family situation that has limited involvement and support of two parents who actively participate in their life

Children must have custodial parents/guardians willing to support the relationship of their child with a Big Brother or Big Sister volunteer

Volunteers who wish to become a Big Brother or Big Sister agree to make a one-year commitment and maintain a consistent relationship by getting together at least twice each month and by having phone contact between visits. Volunteers are interviewed to determine their interests, personality and expectations. The screening process for a volunteer involves three steps before he or she can be considered for a match:

  • An application packet - which includes an application, references and background check information - must be completed. The volunteer must meet with the program staff coordinator for a personal interview and fingerprinting.
  • The volunteer must attend an orientation/training session.

For further information, including eligibility criteria, contact the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program Coordinator at 563-583-7357; Toll Free 877-437-6333 or e-mail Anne Hedrick at ahedrick@hillcrest-fs.org
