| Title: | School Based Counselor (part-time) |

| Purpose: | Provides specialized counseling, psychotherapy, consultation and evaluation services to children and adolescents in a school based setting. |
| Qualifications: | Master’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling or related field from accredited college. Prior experience in related mental health field preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of group work methods. |
| Reportability: | The School Based Counselor reports to and is directly accountable to the School Based Youth Services Coordinator. |
| Scope: | The School Based Counselor has impact on students, families, school personnel, and community agencies. |
| Skills: | Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of mental health services, including knowledge of the theories, methods and procedures of diagnosis and psychotherapy. Ability to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide services appropriate to the age and diagnosis of clients served. Knowledge of group work methods. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work cooperatively with staff and other service providers and interface effectively, sensitively with clients/families. Highly professional presentation and manner. Ability to maintain composure under stress. A valid drivers license and auto liability insurance at the organization standard established for this position. |
| Relationships: | The School based Youth Services Counselor relates to the Mental Health Center Director, school staff and administrators, students and their families and community service providers. |
| Principle Responsibilities: | |
| Principle Responsibilities:
1. Counseling Services a. Gather information by conducting interviews with referred students and their support network to evaluate referred students’ mental health status and counseling needs. b. Conducts individual and group counseling to assist referred students in identifying ways to more effectively manage stressful situations and their mental health needs. c. Establishes, reviews and evaluates various treatment goals and methods in order to develop an individualized treatment plan. d. Refers students and their families to various community services providers, as appropriate. e. Assists school personnel to identify variables which negatively affect a student school performance recommending strategies which best support the student. This may be accomplished by using various strategies which include: observing classroom and teacher interactions; participating in problem solving opportunities; and attending staffings and case facilitations. f. When possible, presents for emergencies or assists school personnel to de-escalate crisis situations. 2. Collaboration and Program Planning

| Physical Requirements: | |
| This position requires approximately 35% of time standing, walking/moving throughout various facilities, bending, lifting (approx. 15 lbs). Drives to/from facilities.
