| Title: | Back Up Counselor - Iowa City |
| Status: | Non-Exempt |
| Purpose: | To provide supervision of the facility and residents when needed and to serve as a role model, teacher, and counselor for the group home residents so that they will be able to live independently. |
| Qualifications: | A Bachelor's degree in a related human service field in preferred. Experience working with adults who have chronic mental illness is preferred. Must be able to drive agency vehicles. Must successfully complete an employment physical prior to contact with clients. |
| Reportability: | The Back Up staff reports to and is directly accountable to the Program Coordinator. |
| Scope: | This position has impact on the residents served by the program, their families, staff and other professionals in the community. |
| Skills: | The Back Up staff must possess knowledge of chronic mental illnesses as well as group and family counseling skills. The Back Up staff must possess strong written and verbal communication skills and have the ability to utilize community resources. This position requires excellent time management, organization and flexibility. The person in this person is expected to communicate clearly, tactfully and professionally. The person in this position must be skilled in handling crisis situations. |
| Relationships: | The Back Up staff is a member of the residential team and will develop and maintain professional relationships with clients, families of consumers, and other professionals or community members who have an impact on the consumers who we serve. |
| Principle Responsibilities: | |
| 1. To provide case coordination for residents when assigned.
a. To serve as a primary worker for clients as assigned. b. To conduct assessments for each client and develop an individualized treatment plan when assigned by Program Coordinator. c. To assist in obtaining appropriate community resources or services for each client when assigned by Program Coordinator. d. To participate in resident and agency staff meetings. e. To handle additional responsibilities, as assigned, for all clients. f. To maintain a complete and update clinical records for residents when assigned by the Program Coordinator. g. To adhere to all licensing, regulatory and agency guidelines. h. To document significant information in each file in a clear and timely manner. 2. To provide a safe and welcoming living environment for residents.
3. To participate in a multi-disciplinary team in providing treatment for clients.
4. To assume all other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator. | |
| Physical Requirements: | |
| This position requires occasional bending/stooping, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching above shoulder, crouching, kneeling, balancing and push/pulling. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. 30% of time spent standing, 30% of time spent walking, and 40% of time spent sitting. Must be average hearing and visual acuity. Is required to use telephone and have average manual dexterity. Must be able to operate vehicles. May be exposed to wet/damp surfaces and common household cleaning chemicals.
