For over 100 years, Hillcrest has been home to many. From the beginning, Dr. Nancy Hill welcomed unwed mothers into her home. Then hundreds of children lived and played here while awaiting adoption during the Baby Fold years. As the needs of society have continued to change, so have the services and programs offered. Presently, children, families and adults find solace and guidance in our residential programs in three cities. Our varied services also help thousands of people each year who live in their own homes and communities. We assist them as they learn skills and acquire information and resources needed to gain greater control of their lives. We offer help for today and hope for tomorrow in three main areas:

  • Children and Family Services
  • Community Health
  • Adult Mental Health
  • Hillcrest’s staff of more than 370 employees provided services to clients from 58 Iowa counties during the past year. A member of the Dubuque and Iowa City United Ways, Hillcrest is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). Programs and services are coordinated through offices in the Iowa cities of Dubuque, Cedar Rapids, Clinton, Iowa City and Ottumwa.

As a private, non-profit social service agency, Hillcrest depends in large part upon funds from individuals and organizations within the community. Contributions enable us to provide care to individuals and families regardless of their economic situation.

Hillcrest is a ministry of The Iowa Conference of the United Methodist Church and the Synod of Lakes and Prairies, Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). It is one of the few youth care agencies in the state of Iowa having a chaplain on its staff to minister to the spiritual needs of clients. Ministry Options
