VOCATIONAL PROGRAM

This program has been developed to help clients with psychiatric disabilities, brain injury or developmental disabilities learn the skills necessary to obtain and maintain employment. Vocational counselors provide the support and training a person with a psychiatric disability needs to work independently in the community. Vocational counselors meet with clients as often as needed.

Participants in the vocational program are involved in all aspects of active job-seeking. Employment plans are established with the full input of each individual. The program encourages participants to develop attainable goals, with an emphasis placed on skill building and environmental resource development.

The Hillcrest Adult Vocational Program helps clients by:

  • Teaching the skills necessary to obtain a job
  • Providing crisis intervention in the workplace
  • Job coaching
  • Assisting in the development of a support system at work and in the community
  • Providing ongoing support after employment
  • Referrals are accepted from any professional or interested party. Prospective clients must be 18 years of age or older, with a mental illness diagnosis, brain injury or developmental disability. Participation in the program can be paid through Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation services, Title 19 Waiver services, county funds, private payment or through other sources.
